About Us

History of the School

Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong happens to be not only one of the premier educational institutions of Shillong in particular but also of the North-East in general. Set in the idyllic surroundings of the hill-side stream this institution has been catering to the needs of the students’ community and the society at large, firmly upholding the motto “Tommoso Ma Jyotir Gamayo” (lead from darkness to light).

The school was established in Laban area with the initiative of some enlightened people of the society. In a temporary attached hut near Laban Batti Bazar; the school began its journey in 1923. In the month of August, 1946, it was raised to Laban Bengalee Boys’ High School. Set in the ideal surrounding of a hill side stream in streamlet road, Laban, the school was upgraded and converted to Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School in 1994.

Starting with Science stream, the school now also has Commerce stream. Composition of population surrounding the school is purely cosmopolitan, thus the school has students from different communities. The aim and objective of the school is to provide quality education to all aspiring students through meaningful academic persuasion, to help students to discover and tap their fullest potential through appropriate co and extra-curricular activities, to encourage and promote moral, secular, scientific and nation building values. At present our student strength is approximately 700 nos. and caters mainly to the BPL category.

Needless to say, with time Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School has risen from strength to strength. Over the years in the field of Academics the school has been performing well securing not only cent per cent pass percentage but also ranks in the Board finals conducted by the M.B.O.S.E. It may be worth mentioning that this year in class XII finals (Conducted by MBOSE) the school bagged the 1st and 2nd rank in Science and 3rd and 9th in Commerce respectively.

Rules & Regulations

Important Rules Of Discipline

1. Special attention is given to ensure high standard of discipline in the school.
2. Pupils must be punctual school.
3. Absentees should bring their absence records signed by their parents/guardians the next day.
4. Pupils should treat their teachers and school staff with due respect.
5. Pupils should not leave the school premises during school hours without permission of the Principal.
6. Irregular attendance, disrespect to the school staff, cheating of any kind or any conduct objectionable to the good tone of the school, are sufficient reasons for the dismissal of a student.
7. Any damage done to the school property will be made good by the pupil concerned.
8. The class teacher will take care to see that books etc. are not lost but the class teacher will not be responsible for the loss.
9. Wearing of costly ornaments will not be allowed in the school.
10. A student caught stealing or using unfair means during examination will be expelled from the school.
11. Newspaper, periodical etc. should not be brought to the school.
12. Students are to converse in English in the School.
13. Organising of picnic etc. and joining organisations without permission will not be allowed.

Important Notes to Parents & Guardians

1. Parents & guardians are requested to co-operate with the school authority by seeing that their child/ward is regular, puanctual, neat and clean and diligent at his home task and lessons. 2. Parents/Guardians are requested not to meet teachers or their child/ward during school hours and to leave the school campus when the classes commence. 3. The school welcomes suggestions but will not entertain arguments. 4. The report card will be given periodically which should be examined and returned for safe storage. 5. Parents are advised to visit the school as often as possible to check on the child’s progress.
